Tips To Avoid Plumbing Trips

Bathroom Tips

Repair leaky faucets to avoid further damage to the fixtures and faucets.

Tubs and Showers

Tubs and showers should be fitted with strainers that catch hair and soap chips. Clean the strainers regularly.

Do not use your toilet as a wastebasket. Do not flush facial tissue, cotton balls, make-up pads, sanitary products, or diapers as they do not dissolve and can clog the lines.

Showerhead Maintenance

Showerheads develop uneven spray when holes become clogged with mineral deposits from the water. See below for cleaning directions:

  • You will need an adjustable wrench
  • First, wrap the jaws with masking tape
  • Unscrew collar nut from a showerhead
  • Gently clean the outlet and inlet holes
  • Flush the head with clean water
  • For best results, soak in vinegar overnight
  • Reassemble the showerhead
  • Check showerhead and repeat as necessary

Be sure to test your toilet for leaks. You can do so by checking the water level in the tank to be sure the water is not overflowing.
